Local Area & Attractions
A must-see attraction is the Dale Hollow Dam.
The dam was completed for flood control in 1943 and power generating
units were added in 1948, 1949, and 1953 to provide 54,000 kilowatts
of electricity. The dam is within 10 miles of the Lodge by road
and even closer by water. Just below the dam is the fish hatchery
which, built in the 1960's, produces 300,000 pounds of trout each
year for stocking lakes and rivers. If the dam is generating electricity,
drive down to Moody Boat Ramp where you will experience the coolness
in the air from the dangerously cold water coming from the depths
of Dale Hollow Lake.
Standing Stone State Park is within 5 miles of Mitchell
Creek Lodge and offers all the amenities one would anticipate finding
at a top-rated state park. The Park hosts a car show in August,
the national rolley hole marble tournament in September and Christmas
in the Park in December.
The quaint town of Livingston with its many antique stores is conveniently
located 9 miles away for grocery shopping, fuel needs and health
care facilities. Livingston and Overton County host both the Bluegrass
Festival and County Fair in July, Christmas in the Country (crafts)
in November, and the Christmas Parade in December. Visit www.overtonco.com
for additional information.
The college town of Cookeville, an approximate 35- minute drive
from Mitchell Creek Lodge, offers a wide variety of restaurants
and shopping opportunities as well as a movie theatre, a bowling
facility and golf courses.
